Dedicated To The People Who Destroyed Me

2023

Porcelain, Stonewear Glaze, Gold Lustre and Bronze

This body of work explores experiences around trauma, beauty, and men, examining and healing from sexual trauma. Utilizing various processes including wheel thrown, hand sculpting, and glaze techniques to explore and challenge ideas about these topics within society, and to lean into symbolic imagery to evoke thought from the viewer. Making this work explores the hope and desire to one day heal from my experiences, to connect viewers to each other, and to help them feel seen. It is also part expression of anger, that the reality of being a woman comes with this heavy duty of knowing what can happen and having to accept it. I feel artworks relating to sexual trauma are still taboo in the art world. I want to take up the space to have this topic seen and heard, to contribute to shedding light on just how patriarchal the world still is. The intention is to create reflection, discomfort, reliability, and anxiety within the work for the viewer to experience.
